Frequently Asked Questions

What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy?

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based practices that focuses on the way our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected. The goal of CBT is to address our negative or ineffective thinking patterns and help us change those patterns. Like any new skill, this takes time and effort, which is why there will be homework between sessions. Most of life is lived outside of therapy, and it is important to practice your new skills consistently and in real time.

What can I expect in therapy?

Prior to our first session, we will schedule a phone consultation to determine if it is a good idea to move forward. During our initial intake session, we will discuss my impressions and collaboratively create a treatment plan, which will include frequency and duration of sessions. Everyone is different and the treatment plan will be modified as we move along in therapy. I integrate a variety of approaches including CBT, DBT skills, ACT, Motivational Interviewing, mindfulness-based strategies, and Exposure Response Prevention for OCD. All treatments utilized in my sessions are evidence-based. If we feel we are not the right fit after a few sessions, I will help you find someone who is a better fit for you at this time.

Is teletherapy effective?

Teletherapy has been highly effective throughout the pandemic, and it looks like it is here to stay. Confidentiality is ensured by using a HIPAA-compliant video platform. Teletherapy also makes therapy more accessible — no commuting to an office and taking more time out of your day!

Do you take insurance?

I am out of network for all insurance providers, but will provide you with the documentation you need to submit to your insurance for reimbursement. I will work with you to address any financial concerns you have. We will discuss fees during our initial phone consultation. Payment is due at the time of service.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel or reschedule, I request 24 hours notice, unless there is an emergency. If cancelation is not made within 24 hours notice and we cannot reschedule the session for that week, I will need to charge you the full session fee.
